Synthetic control of lateral compartmentalization in the yeast plasma membrane using micro patterned surfaces
In my PhD, I am going to investigate the influence of large scaffolding structures on protein domain formation in the plasma membrane (PM) of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Chemically modified and micro patterned surfaces will serve as artificial scaffolds to manipulate lateral domain formation within the yeast PM, enabling selective clustering of proteins into defined domains with precise temporal and spatial control. Additionally, I am working on generating vesicles from different PM domains. Their immobilization on functionalized surfaces will allow analyzing their lipid composition via MALDI-MS.
